Handle Screws Behind Faceplate

The faceplate or the front part of some Delta handles sometimes do not have any visible screws to start your disassembling. It is entirely normal, and it just means that the screws are hidden behind the faceplate.

To get to the screws, you will have to pull the plate out along with the handle. This action will require minimal effort and should quickly come off. Once it does, you will see the handle screws behind the plate.

Unscrew these to take the handle off carefully.

With Threaded Bonnets

Removing a Delta handle with threaded bonnets is fairly simple.

To remove it, firmly hold the handle while turning the bonnet in a counterclockwise direction. Eventually, it will loosen, and you can remove the handle and the bonnet both.

If there is a pivot ring present, then first remove that and then the faceplate. Below the plate, you will spot two screws holding a retainer together. Using a screwdriver, remove the screws. If there are no screws, then you can directly remove the retainer.

With Plug Buttons

To disassemble a Delta handle with plug buttons, you will have to go through three phases: removing the plug button, removing the handle, and finally removing the adapter.

  1. To get to the plug buttons and remove the handle, you will need a flat-blade screwdriver. Using the screwdriver, pry off the plug button on the front part of your handle.
  2. To remove the handle and adapter from the valve stem, you will have to unscrew the screw. If that doesn’t work, rotate the cover counterclockwise until it loosens, and you can then remove it.
  3. Then, you can remove the sleeve covering the valve. Using your screwdriver once again, remove the faceplate. In some cases, you might also need to use your screwdriver to remove the pin from the adapter and then detach it from the valve.

Wrapping Up

As mentioned earlier, removing a Delta shower handle is not a very difficult task. You can use these methods to remove the most popularly used Delta shower handle designs. There are other styles, such as a handle trimmed with set screws or exposed screws, but once you have understood these methods, you can easily do this at home.
