But how does one choose the best, and what are the criteria to consider when deciding the best? Not all toilets that claim to have a quiet flush have the literal feature of an actual quiet flush.
Some other toilets have invested in eliminating the noises from the flush but at the same time, have not dealt with other serious issues for a good toilet. But that shouldn’t discourage you.
Some brands have maintained every feature that is necessary for a quiet toilet. In this article, we will share the top 5 quiet toilets you need to buy for your home today.

How to quiet a toilet flush?
Toilets make noise. Some when used, some when filling up, and some when you use the flush. Flushing and filling are complementary to one another. Along with all the other horrible noises that can come out of your bathroom, the sound of a flush toilet not only indicates that you have finished your business — the sound of some of them can awaken everyone in the house. One, or more, of the following suggestions, can help:
1) Keep it Clean
No, we’re not talking about the commode. The operating system in tanks and containers is usually your noise source. If you live in an area with salty water, rough water, or both, you will need to keep the tank as clean as possible. Those soluble solids (as they call them nowadays) will clean everything — the valve, the pipes, the flapper, the chain, and the holes in the bottom of the container. The dense water holes and holes almost invariably make more noise because the pressure forces water through tiny holes.
Pour 1/2 cup of CLR into the tank every month and follow the directions. This should keep everything running smoothly. It will also extend the life of the working parts and the toilet itself. If holes in the rim are connected, it is almost impossible to keep the container clean because the entire drainage channel in the rim is probably blocked by debris. If you see one (or more) part of the container unwashed, the other rim holes may be connected. If this happens, I will double to CLR. Not double, but two treatments one after the other every week, until things go well again.
2) Tighten and Seal
The tank, seat, lid, and even the toilet bowl are all mechanically bound. It does not hurt to pick up a screwdriver and/or wrench almost once a year and make sure things are tight. Almost anything loose can crack or leak. (Note: Not too tight, a broken tank is useless.)
Usually, the tank covers do not fit properly and will allow sound to come out when the tank is full. Add a decent weatherstrip to close the lid.
Remove the lid, clean and dry the area receivingFoam Insulation Tape (1/2″ wide x 3/8″ thick x 6′ long, scrub the base and place on the lid. This product is waterproof, so the tank’s moisture will not interfere with it. (Note: You may want to use thin tape – 1/8 ″ thick – if you are worried that the lid does not fit properly.)
3) Replace or Adjust the Fill Valve
If you have to replace a filling valve, make sure you get a ‘quiet fill flush valve‘. The discharge area is below the water level in the tank to silence the noise of the inlet. This feature eliminates the flow of water from an unsealed valve and the sound of a high-pressure spray valve with high pressure and not enough of an opening to release the pressure.
Note: Start your cleaning plan within a week with the new valve and stick to it. The valve will last longer, the sound should not recur, and the health of your toilet will improve.
4) Adjust Water Flow
You can adjust the water flow to the valve to reduce pressure. The amount of water that comes out of a half-inch pipe is forced through a very small hole in the valve. Like your water pipe — it will spray a lot if you have an outlet with a smaller diameter. Your bathroom should have a shut-off valve on the water line inside the bathroom. By removing the tank lid, then flushing it (perhaps several times) – you can adjust the water pressure in the tank by opening or closing the shut-off valve (slightly at a time) while listening to the sound of the water spray in the tank while refilling.
5) Water Hammer
The water hammer happens when the bottom valve in your water line suddenly closes. Some toilet valves are ready from 60 to 0 almost immediately. The water that flows into the pipe suddenly has nowhere to go, causing a pressure wave. The pipes will vibrate and/or expand as they try to absorb the increase in pressure. They will collide with nails and anything nearby (such as the heat exchanger from our furnace to our entrance to the bedroom). To find out more about hammers please see Water Hammer – Wikipedia
If the water pipe is accessible, make sure it is securely attached to the frame every 16 ″ – 18 ″ by J-Hooks for Pex piping or Copper Tube Strapping. Use acoustic caulking to close the gap through the wall or floor into your bathroom. If the pipe touches any temperature, disconnect it using a seat belt. (The Flanking Noise that comes through your room starts at about 30 feet under the main bathtub.)
Adjusting the water flow through a refill valve and/or water line closure valve should also reduce the water hammer.
6) Toilet Soundproofing
It turns out that those seat covers and tank casings your grandmother used to make (or buy) to hide the used toilet were very effective at preventing noise – although I’m sure she never thought of that. Toilet Seat & Tank Cover Sets made of velvet/sponge/leather that will provide the same type of sound-absorbing properties as a soundproof blanket. (See our article ‘Windows Silent Sleepwear‘). So if you wish, you can buy a set with a seat cover, making the business part of the toilet quieter.
7) Replace the Toilet
Changing the toilet seems overdone until you think of something better. If older than Mick Jagger, it is likely to use more than 5 gallons [5 L] of water per stroke. The new 1 # Toto MS604114CEFG # 01 UltraMax II new uses only 1.28 liters / flush – so it should fill up in just a quarter of the time, saving water, money and time. All parts are new. You can keep it clean from the start. Changing the toilet is not rocket science: two bolts, a wax ring, and a water line. And you’re all set to go.
8) Call a Professional
Although replacing a toilet tank or a complete unit is not difficult, if you – or your wife – are uncomfortable doing so, simply put your faith in a plumber with good customer reviews because there is no second to a professional’s touch. Most of them prefer to provide and install rather than just provide services. This is likely to be a bit more expensive, but the good thing is that there will be no dispute about who is to blame if something goes wrong. You did not provide anything.
They will usually have a showroom with the lines they are carrying, or they will direct you to the supplier showroom. You can choose the ones you like, and they will install the product for you and give you a warranty. While you are with them in your house, you may ask them kindly if they would be alright with taking a quick look for any concerns you may have about the plumbing you may have — and give you a quotation for repairs, or even get your mind at peace knowing that you have no other issues.
Buying Guide: What to Look for When Choosing a Quiet Flush Toilet
Consider the following critical factors when buying a quiet, flushing toilet.
Toilet Size
Always buy a toilet that you are sure will fit your toilet or the area you need to install it. Different toilets come in different sizes.
Toilet types
There are four major types of toilets as we have explained in this article. If possible, get a Double Cyclone or the Dual toilets.
Water-saving technology
Most toilets that save water efficiently use the standard 1.6 gallons per flush. When buying a toilet, you shouldn’t go beyond that. If possible, buy TOTO toilets that have 1.28 gallons per flush.
Flish types
There are four major types of flushing toilets. The flushing system of every toilet determines the difference. The following are the major categories.
- Gravity Flush
This is a flush toilet that uses water to create a flow pressure that forces the waste from the bowl to the trapway. It takes the action of a siphon that cleans the toilet bowl.
- Pressure Assisted Toilets
This is a system of toilets that uses compressed air to force water into a basin. As a result, they are quiet and less likely to get blocked or even clogged.
- Dual Toilets
This is a toilet that gives the user the option to use a partial or full flush. Partial flushing is suitable for liquid waste, while full flush toilets are used for solid waste.
- Double Cyclone
This is a new technology from TOTO toilets. It uses less water per stroke but still has a capacity of 1.6 liters per full flush.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are Quiet toilets good?
Absolutely! They are worth every penny. Their tactful design matches almost every type of lavatory aesthetic. Using less water than traditional toilets is simply fantastic, considering that they do not imitate a foghorn every time you wish to rid your toilet of your waste.
Why is my toilet loud when flushing?
The reason could be a faulty washer, a water tank that needs cleaning and maintenance, or maybe it’s just old and has served its life cycle and needs to be replaced.
Wrapping Up
If you had a problem with a noisy toilet, this shouldn’t be the case anymore. With these five toilets discussed in this article, you will have everything you need. So pick one of them, and you will enjoy the experience.
